New things

Hello all,

If anybody's been paying any attention at the Lennox Anime Club meetings then you might have noticed a few things, if you haven't been paying attention then you need to start trying to stay awake at the meetings; I know it's Saturday morning but still. And then of course there's those who can't attend the meetings, for you people here's all the details. We've got a lot of new authors that signed up for the blog, which means that hopefully I'll be getting some help with providing new material for the site. The second and last thing on this short list of new things is the new addition of a forum style place for all of us to discuss all things Anime; that place is here, aka our new Lennox Anime Club group page with google. Anybody who is added as a member is able to start new "discussions" to ask, state, or just question things. So check it all out and help make this a better club and until next time

Anime Club going Away...

Location of Lennox in Los Angeles County, Cali...Image via WikipediaHey guys,

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the Lennox Anime Club is going to be going away... but only for a while... sort of... depends on how much time you consider a while... But 0I guess the real big news is that the Lennox Library will be going through a remodeling! Which will mean that the Lennox Anime club will not be held for about 6-12 months, depending on how long the remodel takes. Now here's all the gritty details (actually just one gritty detail) : Last day that the Lennox Library will be open is on Saturday November 22nd. Which brings the number of remaining meetings to at least two but probably three; the dates are as follows: November 8th, November 15th, and maybe November 22nd. More details and info to come later so keep checking in. Until then

The Big Poll Results

Hey guys, looks like by popular demand there definitely will be some new things going up on the blog. For those of you that didn't pay any attention, and there are some (you know who you are) here's the poll question:

What new feature would you like to have on the site the most?

And here are your results:
  • Current or Upcoming Anime or Comic Events (WINNER with 8 Votes)
  • Links to other Anime or Comic websites (7 Votes)
  • Links to the most recent episodes of Anime series (7 Votes)
  • Anime News (6 Votes)
  • User Created Artwork (6 Votes)
  • Anime Music Videos (6 Votes)
  • Anime Reviews (5 Votes)
  • Keep things like they are (3 Votes: Looks like almost nobody wants that)
That means that pretty soon I, and anybody else who is an author of the blog is welcome to join me, will soon begin posting Anime and Comic News and Rumors for everyone to enjoy. We have had the Google news thing that is on the right hand side towards the bottom going for a while but now I will actually be posting news and talking about and asking for responses about the news that going on. Although, ideally I'll be putting up a little bit of everything I mentioned, but we'll see how that turns out (wish me luck). Well, I guess that's it for now so until then

Personalized Buttons...

Not that anyone will probably read this post, but do you want a personalized Lennox Anime Club button? I'll do whatever you tell me for your personalized button within reason. That means I have the right to nix your button if it's got profanity or obscene whatever on it. I wish I could put like InuYasha or even the Naruto icons on the buttons, but copyrights say that it's a no no. So yes, a personalized button. This could be like a MySpace away message or whatever.

You can choose a white background or black background because of the logo. I recommend the black background. The first unreleased batch of anime buttons had a white background and wasn't very impressive, but hey, go nuts. So slogan, optional inclusion of your name, and the not so optional anime club logo. Keep in mind the buttons aren't that big so no having me print the script for season one of Love Hina on it. Plus, that's a big copyright violation.

Here's one example.

Anyways, the sooner you get your button ideas to me, the sooner you'll have your button.

Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention

Hey guys, it's that time again. If you remember from last year the Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention has some interesting things going on. I posted the fliers for last year on the blog and here are this year's fliers :

P.S. : I probably won't be attending but if anyone does, then please take pics or something to show off to those of us that couldn't go.

Later.

Summer Reading Program Fun

It's not too late to do the summer reading program! You're probably reading stacks of manga because anime is so behind right? If you sign up and read three hours before August 20, 2008 and show up that day, you can win prizes! I've got backpacks with school supplies, a MYSTERY PRIZE, and other stuff. Yes, I said MYSTERY PRIZE. It's a neat one too. You can either forget I said anything about a MYSTERY PRIZE, neglect to care about the MYSTERY PRIZE, show up for the raffle day without a chance of winning the MYSTERY PRIZE, or you can log in three hours of reading and have the chance to score the MYSTERY PRIZE. Have I plugged this enough yet? So sign up for the reading program and show up on August 20, 2008 at 4pm to participate in raffle day. Even if you don't win one of the raffle prizes, you get a book, a certificate of participation, a spin at the prize wheel, and CAKE! FREE CAKE! That's what it takes to get you in right? If more than a few anime club members join the reading program and read the three hours, I'll let Juan Carlos raffle off some stuff that we got from Anime Expo. I know we have a giant wall scroll of Fullmetal Alchemist that needs a home! When you regular anime members join the reading program, let Juan Carlos know.

AUGUST 23, 2008 at 3pm! If you saw Buster Balloon and liked him, you'll like Annie Banannie too! She's a balloon twister too and she's promising confetti! We're closing out the summer program with her show. Raffle Day will be pretty awesome, but Annie is even better! You don't have to be a part of the summer reading program: just show up. She's really cool. It's confetti! It can't possibly be lame if there's confetti involved!

Okay, last note. Juan Carlos and I wanted to do a quick test to see if any anime club members are actually reading this blog or hitting it up through the MySpace widget. First one to email LibrarianChan@gmail.com before 12:00am on August 16, 2008 will get a $5 gift card to Starbucks. You must have attended at least one anime club meeting to claim your prize. So hello? Is anyone out there?

Please welcome...

For all of you members that actually attend the meetings on Saturday you may or may not have noticed a certain someone running around asking you questions, getting you things and bringing you news; some of you might know her as Julie Chan, others may just refer to her as that lady. But anyway we've sort of got a new Julie in the form of our new children's librarian Elizabeth Tanner aka Biz. You'll probably start seeing her around during the meetings as of two weeks from this Saturday. Don't be shy, don't be afraid to ask questions, and feel free to bug her about stuff; she's going to be here a while. That's it for now, so keep checking the site 'cause you never know what's going to happen...

Future Game Days?

I know game day was a few weeks ago, but seriously, what do you people think about it? Well, besides the part that involved the bogus Rock Band fiasco, did you have fun? I've warned the people that check out the game stuff already, so in theory, Rock Band should work next time there's a game day.

I think there was enough pizza this time around. There was most of one left at the end of the day. Or was the pizza just so bad that you really didn't want to eat much of it? Smash Bros. was played tournament style. Should we do prizes and have sign-ups and rules? Or would you rather have the free play without having to come up with rules? Should we get different games? Were there too many people or can we publicize this a little more?

I'm looking for ways to make game days better for you and easier for the staff running it. Let us know or tell your Fearless Leader on Saturday. Game on!

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

Game Day Reminder

Game day is THIS Saturday, July 12, right after anime club. We're playing till 2pm. We're setting up the Wii on the projector and the PS3 will be on the TV. Your fearless leader will bring Smash Bros. again for the Wii and if you get bored of that we'll probably have a few more games available. I know I requested Carnival Games and I have Rabbids 2 at home. For the PS3, we have Rockband and one of the other staff members said that he'd let us borrow a soccer game. So in theory we should be able to get like six people playing something or the other at once. Game on!

Summer Reading Program

I've got some stuff cooking for the summer. We're playing Nintendo Wii immediately after the club meeting on July 5, 2008. Not a big game day, more like a test run. But hey, we're playing games. We've got Wii sports, your fearless leader is bringing in Smash Bros and Mario Kart, and I've got the Rabbids 2 game. We're clearing out the room at 2pm because we've got five time world record holder David Cousin juggling for us at 3pm.

So actual Game Day is July 12, 2008 also right after the club meeting. We'll have the Nintendo Wii again PLUS Rockband for PS3. If we do this right we can have one console for each end of the back room.

Among other things, I'm trying to get Comic Bug over here to do a program. They're a comic book store out in Manhattan Beach. They seem like really cool people and they'll show you guys how to draw. Maybe one of you will be so inspired that you'll create a new logo for us?

I've also got Annie Banannie coming on August 23, 2008 at 3pm. She's a balloon artist like Buster Balloon. She promises to use confetti.

Of course there's the whole reading game going on too. I've got ninja ducks, yo-yos, big plastic poppers things, and some other prizes cluttering up the work room. All you have to do is get the game board and start reading. I've even got plastic bugs if that's your deal. Anyways, this summer's going to be filled with stuff to do at the library. We have air conditioning too if that helps!

Lennox Family Festival Details

Hello all, here's the fliers for the Lennox Family Festival that the Lennox Library and the Lennox Anime Club will be participating in. There will be no Anime watching on that day at the Library, the event will be starting at about 10:00AM when we'll be loading up and heading to the park. If you can't show up at 10:00 at the Library then feel free to join us at any point through out the day at the park, until 4:00 PM when we'll be packing up and heading back to the Library. The Lennox Anime Club will be manning an adjacent booth to the Library's booth where those who have purchased something from the Library booth will get a free throw at a cut out which will give them the opportunity to get a free item. For those who do decide to show up to help out, I ask that you please try to bring your Lennox Anime Club T-Shirt that was handed out to those who participated in the Lennox Cinco de Mayo parade. If you can't, then try to wear anything Anime related; shirts, hats, hoodies, armbands, wristbands, anything at all to try to recruit people into joining the club. Our main goal during the event will be to try to get more people to join our club, but also remember, we are there to have some fun. So to encourage our fun having, yes I know "fun having" is not a word or means anything but I'm sure you know what I mean, try to let me know ahead of time whether or not you'll be able to show up and for how long or what times. If possible, since I know 6 hours is a long time for anybody to be somewhere, I want to try to maybe set up a shift schedule for you volunteers so that you can help out if you want, and also check out the stuff, food, and other events going on at the Festival. So that's it for now, if there are any questions, comments, etc. feel free to email me at the club's email address at LennoxAnimeClub@gmail.com , and until then, keep checking out the site for new stuff.

Please Excuse...

Please excuse the messiness of the blog for the next couple of weeks, I'm starting to work on the site a bit more in order to make it look better, get the ads to look right, and start a few new sections including more anime reviews, anime news, and anime articles about things to come. I also want to invite you guys to submit any artwork, reviews, or anything else to the anime club blog. If you have any comments or suggestions about anything feel free to make a post here or email me or the club directly at lennoxanimeclub@gmail.com . So if things look a little weird or out of place or duplicated, I appologize in advance, and still ask you guys to keep visiting the site.

A Little Late, But: Post your reaction to participating in the Cinco de Mayo Parade here

Yes, yes, I know it's almost a month later but I just haven't gotten around to it so, if you guys who participated in it wouldn't mind, please post your thoughts and opinions of it here. Just to give you guys some quick facts: about 15 or so people showed up which was way more than the 4 that showed up the time before, so thank you to all the people that showed up. We went from a little before 9:00AM to about 11:10ish or so, at which point we came back to library for some pizza. I thought that it was fun, but then again my opinion is a little biased since I was driving the truck. More to come later and remember to keep visiting the site.

Game Day Take 2?

I just got three boxes of board games today. Some are pretty lame. Checkers and dominoes. Some are kinda lame. Monopoly and Scrabble. Some are decent. Guillotine and Jenga. My question is, do you guys want to try for a different kind of game day? I can call in for Guitar Hero again and track down the unlock codes. While two people are wailing on that, the rest of you can play the board games. I have an Uno deck in the glove compartment of my car most days and I'm sure I can drag in Carcassone if any of you have played or have any desire to take over the medieval world. You could even bring in your own games. We'll buy more pizza this time. Like lots more. If you want this, comment back or let your fearless leader know.

Cinco De Mayo Parade

Hey everyone, it's time for our 2nd annual participation in the Lennox Cinco de Mayo Parade. We need people to show up and participate and help us get the word out to the population of Lennox. The parade starts at 10:00AM so if you guys are interested in showing up then you have two ways to show up. First, and the easiest way, would be to show up at the Lennox Library at about 8:45AM so that we can all leave as a group at about 9:00AM. Otherwise you can struggle and try to find the Library group at 9:00AM in front of LMS. The parade will last approximately 2 hours from 10:00AM to 12:00PM, the whole event for us however will start just before 9:00, so don't show up at 10:00 because the parade will have probably started and it will be too late. Although you can also just come out to the parade and cheer the anime club on from the sideline if you would like, that would be awsome to actually have some supporters in the crowd, so either way, show your love for the LAC. Also, when you show up, try to have some anime related clothing or articles on you; Naruto Headbands, Bleach Armbands, or anime hats. Wear as much as you can even though we are trying to get some sort of a basic shirt done in time. Anyways, show up and if you are planning on attending email the club at the club address with you shirt sizes so that we can try to accomodate you as much as possible, if not, then your likely to be wearing a pretty baggy, but awsome logo including, shirt.

Meeting Dates for April and May And First Fundraiser of the Year

Hello all, here's the latest Flier with the meeting dates for the next two months. Two special events are happening during two of those meetings. The first, on April 12, is the County wide Book Sale, we won't necessarily be selling books, although you can if you want to volunteer for it, but we will be doing a little fund raising by selling the deliciously tasting Otter Pops: here's the link to their site. So, that means that we need volunteers for this event, we hope to sell at least two boxes in order to raise money for the people who want to attend our definitely going convention in January of 2009. The book sale will be going on Saturday April 12 from 1-3 PM, I think (I'll double check), so send me an e-mail or post on this site, or let me know in person if you can help out. The other event is happening Saturday May 3 but it's sort of a big event that requires it's own post so look for it soon, hopefully later today.

Meeting Reminder

Just a quick reminder to all that there is NO meeting this Saturday March 29, 2008. There will however be a meeting NEXT Saturday April 5th, 2008 at the usual time of 10:00AM at the usual place: the Lennox Library. Well, that's it for now.

Button Update

Okay, so no one turned in an entry for the slogan contest. That’s fine. I’ve pilfered several off various sites and made like five buttons before I got sick. Anyways, we will have buttons. Right now they don’t look great because we don’t have color ink for the printer, but once we get more ink cartridges, you can bet we’ll have neat buttons! Then you’ll be sad you don’t get to see your nifty slogan on a button!

We might have another contest, but we’ll give it some time before we try that. Hopefully we’ll be able to pass out buttons soon!

Calender of Events for March

Here's what's going on at the Lennox Library this month, including all the Lennox Anime Club meetings for this Month.

New Anime Selection Starts This Week

Here's a short quick list of the New Anime coming your way at the next few Anime Club meetings. First comes Texhnolyze an Anime about robots, fighting, and the future. Next is Noein: To Your Other Self, a supernatural mystery Anime with some weird stuff going on. Also coming your way is Ergo Proxy, an Anime about androids, artificial intelegence, and MURDER! (insert weird suspencefull british accent here). And finially, we have Kamichu!, to put it simply i'll just say what scifi.com's anime review section put it, "A little girl becomes a little god overnight and has many little adventures." That's it for now and as always, remember to keep checking back for new material on our blog.

Guitar Hero, Buster Ballon, and a shameless pitch for the slogan contest

We're playing Guitar Hero AFTER anime club on March 8th! You don't even have to get out of your chair, just stick around. Provided the librarian doesn't screw up (oh geez, that's me), we'll be using the projector. No worries about being loud! Well, within reason... by that I mean gaming sounds are fine, but I draw the line at bloodcurdling shrieks because this is happening while the library is open. We're playing from noon till about two. If you want to stick around after we're done with Guitar Hero, we're having a balloon artist come in at 3pm. He's awesome. He climbs into the "6-foot whoopee cushion of DOOM" kind of awesome. Here's Buster Balloon's website if you're interested. He's the guy in the middle. CLICK HERE

So come to Anime Club on March 8th, stick around for Guitar Hero I and Guitar Hero II right after, and see Buster Balloon at 3pm. I'm still working on snacks, so cross your fingers in the hopes that I can get pizza approved for Guitar Hero. Let Juan Carlos or me know if you have any questions or comments. I'll do a more formal post with more details later.

DON'T FORGET TO SUBMIT YOUR SLOGANS FOR THE CONTEST! We don't have any entries at the moment so if you're the only entry, you're technically the winner...
